FRAN JEFFRIES - Fran Can Really Hang You Up The Most (1960) lp | Mp320k

Best known for her marriage to crooner Dick Haymes, her song-and-dance cameo in 1963's The Pink Panther, and her celebrity photo spreads in Playboy, Fran Jeffries also cut this rare release for Morty Craft's short-lived Warwick label. It's no lost classic by any stretch of the imagination, but as sex-kitten kitsch goes, it's surprisingly engaging and consistent. For starters, Jeffries is an unexpectedly talented singer, sophisticated and soulful, and Ralph Burns' arrangements are delightfully jazzy, shifting seamlessly from uptempo swingers to gentle ballads. The material is also chosen with care, offering Jeffries a crack at Irving Berlin ("Love and the Weather") and the Gershwins ("Isn't It a Pity?") as well as more contemporary numbers including, of course, "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most." by Jason Ankeny
