STACEY KENT & ART HIRAHARA — Songs from Other Places (2021) FLAC (tracks+.cue), lossless

Singing with just piano accompaniment suits Stacey Kent's voice. It's an intimate, gorgeous sound. Of the new songs, I especially like Craigie Burn, by Tomlinson and Ishguro, probably the only song written that rhymes autumn with moorland. I am tired of Paul Simon's American Tune, which I think is not one of his better tunes but is covered so often, I suspect, because of the lyrics. Stacey does a nice version of that song, too, minimizing the melodrama that others bring to it. I like everything that Stacey sings in French and am happy that Les Voyages is on this CD. All in all, there is much to enjoy and nothing to skip on Songs From Other Places. Ken Schmidt
